Yushima Power Spot Tour

The Yushima area is home to numerous power spots, including Yushima Tenmangu and Yushima Seido. Whether you’re seeking love, financial success, or academic achievement, you can visit the perfect spot to match your wishes!

Yushima Tenjin (Yushima Tenmangu)

Yushima Tenjin is a shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, making it a well-known power spot for students and those wishing to improve their academic abilities. Founded in 458, it has long been cherished as one of the “Three Great Tenjin Shrines of Edo.” The grounds are adorned with countless wooden votive plaques (ema), and during exam season, many students and parents come to pray for success.

A highlight of the shrine is the Plum Blossom Festival in February, when approximately 300 plum trees in the precincts bloom beautifully. It is believed that worshiping here not only strengthens academic fortune but also grants the power to turn efforts into success.

Nadeushi (Sacred Cow of Yushima Tenjin)

The Nadeushi, or “stroking cow,” is a stone statue of a cow found within the shrine grounds. Cows are considered sacred in Tenmangu shrines because Sugawara no Michizane was born in the Year of the Ox (845).

It is believed that stroking the part of the cow’s body corresponding to one’s own ailment can help heal that area. As a result, certain parts of the statue have been polished to a shine by visitors’ hands. If you visit, be sure to gently stroke the cow to receive its divine blessings.

Tsuma Koi Shrine

As its name suggests, Tsuma Koi Shrine is famous for bringing good fortune in love. It has long been revered as a place for good relationships, marital harmony, and fertility blessings. The shrine enshrines Yamato Takeru and his wife, Ototachibana-hime.

Although small and compact, the shrine offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. It is a beloved power spot for those praying for romantic success and happy marriages.

Kanda Myojin

Located in Chiyoda City, Kanda Myojin has over 1,300 years of history and is widely worshiped as the guardian god of Tokyo. The three main gods enshrined here are Ōkuninushi-no-Mikoto (god of matchmaking), Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto (god of prosperity and good health), and Taira no Masakado (a legendary warrior spirit).

Kanda Myojin is particularly known for bringing business success and victory, attracting many business professionals and entrepreneurs. The shrine even offers a unique IT safety amulet, making it a great place for work-related prayers.

Shinobazu Pond Bentendo

Located on an island in Shinobazu Pond within Ueno Park, Bentendo is a temple dedicated to Benzaiten, the goddess of water, music, arts, and financial fortune.

The temple’s picturesque setting, surrounded by water and seasonal landscapes, makes it a serene spot for both worship and relaxation. It is particularly stunning during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons when visitors can enjoy the scenery while receiving blessings.
